Whether it is a subtle or a metallic glow on the high points of your face, the highlighting trend has made its mark and has proven that this trend is here to stay.
The highest planes of the face are the best for highlighting. Tglhe ideal places to highlight would be your brow bone, the bridge of the nose, on high points of the cheeks, cupid’s bow and in the center of the eyelid. After completing the full face, apply highlighter as a final touch.
TIPS: For the fairest of skin tones, stick with a pearl-colored highlighter. An icy pink or icy silver highlighter will beautifully illuminate the skin for paler women.
Fair to medium skin tones have the most options with a wide range of flattering shades to choose from.
Try a highlighter with a soft champagne or pale gold shade that will enhance your skin’s natural warmth. For darker skin tones, any variations of gold are flattering (i.e. rose gold, champagne and bronze).
If you are looking for a non-shimmery highlighter palette with bronzer, we recommend e.l.f.’s Cosmetic Contour Palette. For oily skin types, we recommend J.Cat’s powder highlighter, because a cream highlight could just melt right into your skin.
If your skin is flaky due to its dryness, then you won’t want to use a powder highlighter. We recommend cream or liquid based highlighters.
A cream in the form of a stick offers more precision for delicate highlighting, such as the inner corner of the eye, the bow of the lip, and the upper cheekbone.
TIP: Draw the letter 'C' on your face starting on your brow bone, traveling around your temple and ending on the top of your cheekbone for a perfect application every time. We recommend these three products for fast and easy application.
LA Girl PRO Conceal HD Highlighter is your go-to budget friendly liquid highlighter. Liquid highlighters will give you an amazing glow, but they're hard to apply with a brush. You typically want to use a sponge to buff the highlighter into the skin and to sheer it out. Browse our sponge applicators here.
